About the Ritchie Amateur Group
Ritchie Amateur Group was founded in 1982, with seven members. We currently have twenty-nine members and the county has a population of forty-nine hams. The age of our members range from twelve to seventy-nine. Although we are a small group, we participate in many activities, including: providing communications for the only full marathon in the state of West Virginia, supporting the Ritchie County Middle School Ham Radio Club, operating with the Scouts during Jamboree on the Air, participating in Field Day and testing for new or upgrading hams. In addition, most members are members of ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service) and are Skywarn storm spotters in association with the National Weather Service. - John Hatfield, WS8C
